Santa's Elvises!

This weird idea was sparked by fellow blogger Bella Sinclair. I thought it was funny when she said she accidently typed 'elvises' instead of elves in a comment she left. It only takes one word to send me off cartooning. So, thank you, Bella.

I don't know if this is the best solution for that word play, but it's what I eventually came up with, and I must like it because I spent an awful lot of time coloring it.

Hmmm.. guess I haven't been portraying Santa's Workshop too favorably in the last couple of cartoons. I've just always wondered how they do it; billions of toys made in just 365 days... and the pictures I've seen usually only portray a small group of elves doing it ALL. There has to be a few Norma Ray outbursts now and then. I wonder what the mortality rate is for an elf slave? There's always a couple goof-offs at every workplace too, who picks up the slack for them? I would like to see the elf graveyard just outside of Santa's Village. Bet it's huge.

R.O. Blechman CBS Christmas Message (1966)

My friend Rod MacGregor commented about "The Snowman" animated short. I know it well; the song during the flying sequence is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard:

This was and still is my favorite Christmas commercial. I think it's brilliant.
Since it ran for quite a few seasons it's left a permanent impression on me, and continues to conjure up many nostalgic memories of Christmas past.

Designed by R.O. Blechman and animated by Willis Pyle. Beautiful , hand-drawn pen & ink drawings. Music arranged by Arnie Black.

It's What Bears Do...

I had roughed out this idea about 2 years ago as a lone bear just sitting on a slope enjoying the beautiful day, and thinking he really should go out and find something to kill. But since it's the holidays I started thinking it would be nicer to make it more of a family outing. Warm and fuzzy.
